Memphis Interscholastic Athletic Association Student Manager Sports Medicine Workshop
Student manger positions are available in all team sports. Students benefit from these opportunities by gaining valuable competencies i.e health & safety principles, conflict resolution, management, organizing, service, effective communication etc… Through their contributions to the operation of sport, student managers are valuable assets to our athletic teams. Therefore, the MIAA would like to take every opportunity to continue the educational development and leadership potential of all students involved in athletics thus fostering positive, safe and respectful peer to peer relationships among all. The MIAA will provide education and training sessions. Students will gain practical knowledge and experience in the following areas: o Roles & Responsibilities o Athletic Injury Management o Common Sport Injuries and Preventive Taping o CPR, First Aid & AED After completing the training session, each student will be given the designation of Student First Responder (SFR). The SFR designation confirms that the student is certified in CPR, First Aid and AED, educated on specific sports medicine principles based on the consensus of the National Athletic Training Association. The SFR designation is a district wide initiative focused on promoting healthy youth development by increasing student leadership opportunities and practical education involving health and safety practices in MCS high schools. The first session is September 17, 2011.
